George H.W. Bush's former service canis familiaris takes on new function

Sully is joining a squad of therapeutic dogs at a medical eye in Maryland.

Belatedly President George H. Due west. Bush's former service dog, Sully, is taking on his adjacent mission.

Following a ceremony Midweek, Sully joined the therapeutic domestic dog squad at Walter Reed National War machine Medical Center in Bethesda, Maryland.

In a Twitter post on Feb. 21, Bush'south granddaughter, Jenna Bush-league Hager, wrote of Sully: "He was a loving companion when my Gampy needed him most."

Sully was originally trained through a program in which inmates heighten dogs to get service animals.

He was matched with the former president in June of last year by the non-profit America's VetDogs. At the time, Sully was just two years old. Bush suffered from vascular parkinsonism, according to the Associated Press. He used a wheelchair in his later years.

Later on the death of former commencement lady Barbara Bush, Sully provided condolement to the family unit.

Following the decease of the one-time president on November. 30, a photograph of Sully laying down beside the quondam president's casket went viral. Jim McGrath, spokesman for the former president, included the photo in a Tweet on Dec. two, writing "Mission complete."
